Through all my years in the library, watching children explore the non-fiction shelves, I have never seen a lack of interest in dinosaurs. Recently while working with preschoolers I was again trapped in this dinosaur book hunt. This enduring love for dinosaur books prompted my post today.

My encyclopedia of very important dinosaurs, published by DK, in 2018, ISBN-13: 978-1465468482, is one of the most delightful first encyclopedias, for pre-school/elementary and dinosaur enthusiasts ages 4 to 10. Bursting with facts and illustrations, our little dinosaur experts will treasure this book. A must-have for all our young dinosaur researchers.

Did you know that dinosaurs had large holes in their skulls to make their heads lighter? That the Tyrannosaurus Rex used its bad breath as a weapon? These “simple” questions are answered in this very factful book

Dinosaurs (Ken Jennings Junior Genius Guide), written by Ken Jennings and illustrated by  Patrick Girouard, published in 2016, will be a further step in dinosaur study. This book provides awesome prehistoric facts with great illustrations, and also quizzes to make any dinosaur lover to seek more. Highly recommended for all but especially for Grades 3-6

Now that we know so much about Dinosaurs, then why not our delight our preschool – kindergarten friends with a Dinosaur song with a lively beat – you will find it in:

We are the dinosaurs, published in 2017, ISBN13: 9781481464635 Laurie Berkner, pairs the lyrics of her beloved hit with Ben Clanton’s illustrations in this book where we meet some friendly dinosaurs who are ready to explore and have fun. A great choice for any dinosaur loving preschooler.

An almost wordless, adventure picture book, Marlo and the Dinosaurs, written by Christopher Browne, published in 2018, ISBN-13: 978-0-06-244115-7, is a wonderful addition to the collection for the 3 – 6-year-olds who are looking for some dinosaur adventure.

When Marlo wakes up from his afternoon nap, he spots something curious. His investigation brings him into a lush jungle, where a whole new world full of colorful dinosaurs of every size awaits him. This book lets children’s imagination run free and they will happily create their own stories.
